Mezzo-Soprano Sabina Kim, a native of Busan South Korea, has awarded Honorary Mention from Panama Rivelas Opera Competition 2012 and she was a finalist of the first Marcello Giordani International Vocal Competition in Catania, Italy in 2011. She won the Special encouragement award (2005) and third prize(2003) in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition Eastern Region.
She has sung Mrs.Grose from “Turn of the Screw” and Mrs. Herring from “Albert Herring” in Juilliard. She also has performed opera scenes as Mistress Quickly from “Falstaff” in Juilliard School, Marcellina from “Le nozze di Figaro”, Dorabella from “Cosi fan tutte” in Aspen Music Festival, and 3rd Lady from “Magic Flute”, Fidalma from “Matrimonio Segreto” with Mannes Opera.
She previously sung as a soprano and the roles were Cio-cio-san from “Madama Butterfly”, Leonora from “Il Trovatore”, Erste Dame from “Di Zauberflöte” and Donna Elvira from “Don Giovanni”. She had a New York Debut Recital at Carnegie Weill Recital hall sponsored by Korean Music Foundation.
She has been heard in numerous concerts and recitals throughout Korea and New York in major halls including Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Juilliard Paul hall and Busan Cultural Center Hall
She has participated in master classes with Marcello Giordani, Renata Scotto, Fedora Barbieri, Phyllis Curtin, Regina Resnik, Dalton Baldwin and Thomas Hampson that is presented by Marilyn Horn Foundation.
She graduated Juilliard pre-college. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree and Professional Studies from Mannes College New School for Music and master’s degree from The Juilliard School.
