Katie Bolding


Katie began her career as a blues and rock singer.  For five years she was lead singer and rhythm guitarist for a midwestern blues-rock band, and also worked in various recording studios as a back-up singer and co-writer.   Her experience in the world of rock and electronic music was complimented by her graduate study and master’s degree in Classical Music and Opera Performance from the State University of New York at Purchase.  

For the 2012/2013 Season, Katie is engaged as a lyric soprano by the theaters Gera/Altenburg in Thueringen, Germany.  She will sing the roles of Frau Fluth in die lustige Weiber von Windsor, Sophie in Werther, Micaela in Carmen, Columbina in Haydn’s die Feuersbrunst, Maricousa in Simons’ Toi c’est moi, and Axinja in Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth von Mzensk.  She will be a soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and other concert appearances in Thueringen and in the city of Berlin.

In the summer of 2012, Katie traveled to Montreal, Canada, where she spent three weeks in intensive repertoire and technical study as part of the Canadian Vocal Arts Institute (CVAI), under the direction of Joan Dornemann and Maestro Paul Nadler.  

Katie made her professional debut with The Dallas Opera singing the role of Countess Ceprano in Verdi’s Rigoletto in the world-renowned Winspear Opera House.  In this same production she also covered the role of Gilda.  Her northwestern USA debut was the role of Marzelline in Beethoven’sFidelio with the Bellingham Festival of Music in Washington, under the direction of Maestro Michael Palmer.  In September 2011, Katie made her European Concert debut singing in Mahler’s 4th Symphony  under the baton of Maestro Leo Siberski in a concert tour.  In the 2011-2012 season she was engaged by the Staatsoper Berlin as a cover for the role of Venus in a premier production of Offenbach’s Orpheus in der Unterwelt.  In addition, Katie has sung as a chorister with The Metropolitan OperaThe Dallas Opera, and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden - Berlin.

In summer 2011, Katie spent three weeks in Virginia as part of the International Vocal Arts Institute, under the direction of Joan Dornemann and Maestro Paul Nadler.  She was then invited by the Hanyu Academy of Arts to participate in the inaguaral I sing Beijing program for five weeks in Beijing, China, where she studied Mandarin Chinese as a lyric language and performed in the National Performing Arts Center in Beijing.  In August 2011, Katie participated in a master class with famed Swiss Soprano Edith Mathis, as a part of the Schubertiade Festival in Schwarzenberg, Austria. 

She has appeared as Marzelline in Beethoven’s Fidelio, Madame Goldentrill in Mozart’s Impresario, Susanna in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Natalie in Lehar's The Merry Widow, Drusilla in Monteverdi'sL'incoronazione di Poppea, and Filia in a staged version of Carissimi's oratorio Jephte.  Additional solo performances include Mozart’s Exultate, Jubilate, Faure’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiahand Chandos Anthems, Vaughan-Williams’ Hodie, Bach Cantatas 51 and 29, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater.  She has performed as a soloist with the Dallas Symphony and theNortheast Orchestra.  Katie has been a finalist in various vocal competitions, including the Jenny Lind, Shreveport Opera Singer of the Year, Joy in Singing – NYC, Coeur d’Alene Symphony, Young Texas Artists, NATS, The Wednesday Morning Music Club of Austin, Texas, where she was the 2011 Grand Prize winner, and The Dallas Opera Guild, where she won the “Audience Choice” award in 2010.  

Katie has performed at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts with the Joy in Singing foundation and has performed in concert as a guest of the Taos Opera Institute, the Women’s Chorus of Dallas, the International Vocal Arts Institute, the Canadian Vocal Arts Institute and the Hanyu Academy of Arts in Beijing, China. 

Katie speaks English and German and has a strong interest in linguistics and the development of languages - She has experience singing in English, German, French, Italian, Russian, Latin and Mandarin.  When she’s not rehearsing or performing, she continues to compose and record her own songs and often works as a studio vocalist.  She was recently featured in a commercial for Bitburger Beer in central Europe.  Katie lives in Berlin, Germany.
